Principles of Business Administration – Level 2 Certificate
This qualification will give you the underpinning knowledge that is required to ensure you can successfully work in a range of different environments in a business administration role. You will develop essential knowledge of how to carry out administrative tasks such as how to manage information and supporting events. You will also learn how to apply your knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles.
Course Content
Unit 1: Principles of providing administrative services
This unit will develop your knowledge of a range of administrative support tasks as well as meeting types, different mail services and how to organise travel and accommodation. This unit also covers the impact of delivering poor customer service.
Unit 2: Principles of business document production and information management
This unit will provide you with an understanding of how to prepare and distribute business documents and identify how information is managed in business organisations.
Unit 3: Understand communication in a business environment
Within this unit you will study written and verbal business communication, including identifying appropriate body language and tone of voice when communicating verbally.
Unit 4: Understand employer organisations
This unit will provide you with an understanding of different organisational structures and the differences between private, public and voluntary sectors. You will also cover the internal and external influences on organisations and why change in the business environment is important.
Unit 5: Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues
Within this unit you will look at the principles of effective team working, as well as what is expected of a ‘buddy’.
Unit 6: Understand how to carry out business administration tasks
This unit will provide you with the knowledge of how to deal with incoming and outgoing mail, reception services, diary systems management, event organisation and systems for financing administration roles. You will get the opportunity to apply this to your current or potential future workplace.
Unit 7: Understand how to prepare text
Within this unit you will gain an understanding of how to create text from recorded notes as well as knowledge of organisational procedures for storing confidential information.

Distance Online Learning
Our distance learning courses are a new way for you to learn online. Choose from a wide range of subjects and improve your employability skills or develop your personal skills and professional knowledge.
This flexible learning method is personally tailored to support you to work on your individual skills gaps, using a combination of online learning and tutorials, with a fully qualified tutor. You will complete an online workbook, submit short assignments and get feedback from your tutor as you progress.
Do I need any qualifications to start this course?
No, you do not need any previous qualifications to be accepted onto the course. However we will ask you to complete a short English and maths assessment before the course starts. This is so we can be sure that the course is at the right level for you and we can support you to achieve your qualification. How much does the course cost?
All learners will be funded. You must be at least 19 years old at 1/8/2021 and meet UK/EU residency requirements.
When does the course start?
There’s no formal start date as we want to make this learning as flexible as possible for you. However we will arrange to speak to you on a one-to-one basis to provide a course induction before you start so you can meet your tutor and we can answer any questions you may have.
How long is the course and how long will it take me to complete it?
Start your course when you are ready and work at your pace but be ready to commit to completing the work within 12 weeks. There will be a charge of £100 for those who don’t complete their course to cover learning materials and registration.
You will complete an online workbook which includes short assignments that you must submit to your tutor every two weeks. Your tutor will mark your work and give feedback online so that you know how much progress you are making.
What support will I get during my course?
You will work independently at your own pace to meet the deadlines set by your tutor. It is important that you meet the deadlines for assignments so that you complete the course within 12 weeks.
Your tutor is available to offer support by telephone, email or video calls as appropriate, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like have a chat about anything you are finding difficult.
As part of the course you will work on an Individual Learning Programme where you and your tutor will record your work and tutorial support.
How will my work be assessed?
Your tutor will mark your assignments and tell you if you have passed each section of the workbook or whether you need to revisit any questions. As part of our quality management process, at the end of your course your tutor’s assessments are moderated by another assessor and you will be informed if you have passed your qualification or whether you need to re-do any work. There are no exams.
What qualification will I achieve?
Courses are available at Level 1 or Level 2 and are accredited by NCFE, a nationally recognised Awarding body, who will issue the certificate to you.
